  • The Mat-Su school board will consider major changes to the district’s homeschool correspondence program in an effort to attract more students from across Alaska and chip away at a $22 million funding gap predicted for next school year.

  • Alaska officials are preparing to hold a lease sale for geothermal exploration rights at Augustine Volcano in the southern part of Cook Inlet.

It's cloudy today with a slight chance of a snow and a high around 30 degrees. A chance of snow will continue overnight and into the weekend, with the forecast calling for a higher chance of precipitation starting on Sunday. Daytime temperatures will hover in the mid-30s for the next several days.

The men climbed into a life raft after their boat began taking on water and were rescued by a good Samaritan vessel in the area, according to Alaska State Troopers and the U.S. Coast Guard.
