FCPS Cares

Nominate a Keene Mill staff member today!

The FCPS CARES Program allows parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees who go above and beyond to help others and show they care about their students, colleagues, and the community. We invite you to submit a story below to acknowledge the great work of an FCPS employee or group of employees who should receive FCPS CARES recognition. A notification email, with the submission text included, will be sent to the recipient(s) and copied to the recipient's supervisor(s). All submissions are posted to our FCPS CARES webpage and shared via other FCPS news outlets.

Additionally, each month, a committee selects a CARES of the Month recipient for each region. The school or work location of the recipient receives funding for a celebration party ($400 elementary, $500 middle/central, $600 high school) along with a presentation of certificate and engraved pin from one of our team members.

Dress for the Weather

Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities

Winter weather is here! As a reminder, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy time outdoors. Schools monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories that may prevent children from being outside for activities like recess or physical education.

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run (GOTR) is coming to Keene Mill ES! GOTR has fun, evidence-based programs that inspire girls in 3rd-6th grade to build their confidence, kindness, and decision making skills. Dynamic lessons instill valuable life skills including the important connection between physical and emotional health. Starting the week of March 4th, the team will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:15 – 5:30 pm. The program culminates in a celebratory 5K at the end of the season! The standard program fee is $210 and includes weekly lessons/practices, a t-shirt, a GOTR giveaway, entry into the 5K, a 5K medal, and more. Financial assistance is available for anyone who needs it, with the lowest program registration cost being $22 for the season. Registration begins on February 3 and runs through February 23 at www.gotrnova.org. For more information, go to the Girls on the Run of NOVA website (www.gotrnova.org) or contact the Girls on the Run team’s head coach, Vanessa Girata, at vgirata@fcps.edu.
