From the PTA
Happy Friday! Just a quick reminder that Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so we'll be kicking off a 4-day week ahead. It's a great time to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy of service, equality, and kindness. We hope you get a chance to relax and enjoy the long weekend! Thank you for all the continued support—we’re looking forward to a fantastic week ahead!

SCA Volunteers Needed
- We could use a few parents at the monthly SCA meetings, especially to help with the breakfast snack. That takes a few extra hands to set out, supervise and clean up.
- PRELIMINARY IDEAS for a school dance: Sometime in April. Grades: K-6. K-3 activity in the cafeteria; 4-6 in the Gym. The planning is VERY early, but we will definitely need parent chaperones and snacks.
- SCA sponsors Kick Up Your Reading incentive program after Spring Break and will have the games we did last year. It went really well last year, and we had a good number of parents involved to help. Once we get a little closer, Ms. Wilson will send out a signup sheet.
- Chorus Musical - We are doing the musical "The Binding Tale of Beethoven's Bookworms" on April 29th. We have held auditions and started practicing. Need help with costumes and props from our super-talented parents, whether in chorus or not. Sets (a giant book on one side and a room on the other. We have the backdrop already).

Kids Heart Challenge is just around the corner! The event will be held during PE classes Jan 27-Feb 7. |
This event allows Cherry Run students to help save the lives of kids with heart disease, teaches students to make healthy choices, and allows the PE department to earn money for equipment. It will be a fun week for students full of jumping and opportunities to win raffle prizes! Students can earn an American Heart Association wristband just by registering. Registering is free! Donations can be returned to Mrs. Dixon using the American Heart Association paper packet sent home or be made online from Monday Jan 27th- Friday Feb 7th. Please click here if you would like to view the Kids Heart Challenge Webpage. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Dixon at jadixon1@fcps.edu.
Music Notes
Music classes have begun the “Music Tells a Story” unit. What story song do you enjoy? Country music in particular is full of them! Sixth grade is learning about musicals (such as Wicked) and fifth grade is learning about opera (The Magic Flute).
Ms. Wilson is looking for someone to help with sound for the spring chorus concert on April 29. If you are interested, please contact her at pswilson@fcps.edu. We will train you!
SCA Update
Thank you to everyone who donated cards for the Sunrise Retirement Home. The residents were delighted with such an outpouring of love.

It is not too late to register for the spelling bee!

Spelling Bee Myths
1. You must be a good speller to participate.
- All spellers are welcome! It's about playing the game and what you can learn from it. Yes there will be a winner, but it's also fun to just play the game.
2. You must attend the club to participate in the bee
- While highly encouraged to attend club, we understand you all have busy schedules.
3. You have to study or it's not worth it.
- Yes, studying will help and there is a fun Word Club App to help, BUT if you only study at club, you are still welcome.
The PTA is maintaining a digital Teacher Wishlist for all CRES teachers who have submitted! This list is for everyday classroom supplies and not the same as the "Teachers Favorite Things" mentioned above. They can be found at: https://cherryrunelementarypta.org/2023/08/31/teacher-wish-lists/
