UPDATE: Fire Department, Office of the Fire Marshal Announce Arrest of Arson Suspect on Multiple Charges

UPDATE (Jan. 16, 2025, 3 p.m.): Arlington, Va. – The Arlington County Fire Department’s Office of the Fire Marshal is announcing the arrest of an Arlington man following an investigation into arson in the 500 block of 23rd Street South.

Timothy Clark Pollock was the subject of an arrest warrant issued on Jan.15, 2025, and charged with three counts of arson related offenses. On Jan. 9, Fire Marshals with the assistance of the Arlington County Police Department (ACPD), began an investigation into a series of set fires to businesses along 23rd Street South. Timothy Clark Pollock was apprehended on the morning of Jan. 16, at approximately 6:54 am by the Alexandria Police Department and subsequently transferred into the custody of Fire Marshals and ACPD. He is being held without bond.

The suspect is also facing additional charges for unrelated crimes, which remain under investigation.

UPDATE (Jan. 10, 2025, at 1 p.m.): The Office of the Fire Marshal is asking the community for help in identifying a person of interest. The preliminary investigation conducted by The Office of the Fire Marshal has determined the fire to be incendiary and is asking the community for assistance by checking their Ring cameras between the hours of 4-6 a.m. on Thurs., Jan. 9, 2025, to help identify a person of interest.

While processing the scene, additional fire damage was reported at 555 23rd Street and 567 23rd Street. The investigation remains ongoing.

On Jan. 9, 2025, at approximately 5:30 a.m., units from the Arlington County Fire Department were dispatched to the 500 block of S. 23rd Street for a reported structure fire. Units arrived on scene and found items in an enclosed patio of 529 S. 23rd Street on fire. The fire was contained by the sprinkler system and quickly extinguished by responding firefighters. The fire did not spread into the main structure.   

The preliminary investigation conducted by The Office of the Fire Marshal determined the fire to be suspicious in nature. During the investigation, additional fire damage was discovered to adjacent businesses. These fires are also being investigated and are deemed suspicious in nature.
