The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has approved a new section 1115 demonstration for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, “Keystones of Health.” Approval of this demonstration gives authority to Pennsylvania to provide limited pre-release demonstration coverage to certain incarcerated individuals under Medicaid based on state-specific health-related criteria for up to 90 days prior to release who are in state prisons and county jails. In addition, through this demonstration, Pennsylvania will be able to provide some housing and nutrition-related services to certain Medicaid beneficiaries based on a set of clinical and social risk criteria.

The demonstration is effective through December 31, 2029. Today’s approval and other administrative documents can be found on the Medicaid.gov demonstration page.
