Scout Motors' Scout Terra truck and Traveler SUV, featuring the Harvester -- a gasoline engine that extends range to over 500 miles -- highlights the growing trend of extended-range electric vehicles as a solution to range anxiety, writes John Voelcker. However, there is concern about whether drivers will use the electric capabilities or rely primarily on gasoline, similar to the usage patterns seen with plug-in hybrids, Voelcker writes.

Stellantis details STLA Frame platform
(Stellantis)
Stellantis' new STLA Frame platform, which will debut with the Ram 1500 REV and Ramcharger in 2025, is designed for full-size trucks, SUVs and commercial vehicles. It offers up to 500 miles of range for electric vehicles and 690 miles for plug-in hybrids. It supports towing up to 14,000 pounds and payloads of up to 2,700 pounds, with front- and rear-wheel drive options. The STLA platform also is flexible to handle internal combustion, hybrid and hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains.
