Dear Olde Creek Families,

As the chilly winds swept through our community this week, we were warmed by the kindness and togetherness of our school family. Our annual Thanksgiving Luncheon was a heartwarming event, and we were so grateful to see so many families join us.

A big shout-out to our incredible food service and custodial staff, as well as our dedicated volunteers, who worked to make the luncheon a success! Your efforts didn’t go unnoticed!

We’re thankful for the opportunity to educate and inspire our students, and we’re even more grateful for the supportive community that surrounds us.

As a reminder, we only have two school days next week. We’re excited to celebrate with a Pajama Day on Tuesday, November 26th.

Wishing you a warm and cozy Thanksgiving filled with gratitude and joy!

With Gratitude,

Courtney Korb
Alison Butler
Stephanie Kaminsky

Happy Thanksgiving!

Accessing Family Life Education Materials (FLE)

4th-6th grade classes will be participating in Family Life Education (FLE) lessons beginning in December. (Be on the look out for communication from teachers regarding this shortly).

For your convenience, the lessons and materials are available for families to view at your own pace on the All Parents/Guardians: Olde Creek Elementary School Schoology Course. Detailed instructions on how to access these materials can be found liked here.

Additionally, the Woodson Pyramid will be hosting a Parent Preview Night for FLE on Wednesday, December 4th from 5:30-6:00PM. This event provides an opportunity to ask questions and receive assistance in accessing the materials virtually.

We invite you also to learn more about Fairfax County's elementary FLE program on the FCPS website.

Lost & Found Items Will Be Donated 12/13

All jackets, sweatshirts, lunchboxes, etc., that are left at school at 3:30PM on Friday, December 13th, will be bagged up and donated.

If you are missing something, please check the lost and found by the end of the school day on December 13th.

Please consider putting your child's name or initials on the label inside the jacket. It greatly increases the chances that we can re-unite your child with their belongings

Lost&Found

Help us Eliminate Food Waste

The Olde Creek Green Team is starting a food sharing program to reduce waste and food insecurity.

Before we get this program started, we are looking for a donated refrigerator to collect unwanted food, or financial donations toward the purchase of new refrigerator.

If this is something you would are interested in helping with, please reach out to Mrs. Sharon Smith or Ms. Julie Park, our Green Team advisors.

A Note from the Clinic

This is the time of year when we expect to see an increase in the number of respiratory illnesses in our community, including coughs, colds, sore throats, respiratory syncytial virus and influenza. This fall, we are also seeing a rise in pediatric pneumonia. If your child has a fever, a cough that is worsening or you have concerns that their “common cold” is something more, please take them to a medical provider for evaluation and diagnosis.

We are also seeing an increase in gastrointestinal viruses. Vomiting and diarrhea can lead to dehydration, which can be dangerous. It is important to stay hydrated when ill. GI viruses are very contagious, so it is important to follow these tips.

To help prevent the spread of illnesses:

  • Look for signs of illness in your child.
  • Keep children home when they are ill to prevent the illness from spreading to others. If your child has a fever, they should remain home until the fever has been gone for 24 hours (without fever-reducing medications) and they feel well enough to attend a full day of school.
  • Keep children home when they are experiencing vomiting or diarrhea. They may return to school 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting and/or Diarrhea
  • Teach your child how to stop the spread of illness by washing their hands often, covering their mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. For Gastrointestinal illnesses, washing hands with soap and water is the best practice, not hand sanitizer.
  • Stay up-to-date on immunizations.
