Dear Reader,
In our weekly “What’s Going On in This Graph?” activity, we share a different graph, map or chart from The New York Times and invite students to share what they notice and wonder about it. With our partners at the American Statistical Association, we host a live-moderated discussion about that graph most Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eastern. On Thursdays, we publish additional background information on the graph, followed by a new graph for the coming week.
Teachers tell us that this feature exposes students to a variety of graph types and concepts in math and statistics in a real-world context, and that it gives students a way in to analyze and understand the visual journalism produced by The New York Times.
To learn more, take a look at the graph students will be discussing next, focused on the current drought across much of the United States, as well as our entire archive of graphs.
Sincerely,
The Learning Network
