Principal's Message:

Thanksgiving lunch

Dear GBW,

Today was a wonderful day as we invited families in for a family meal at our annual GBW Thanksgiving Luncheon.  On behalf of our GBW staff, we want to thank our families for your strong support of Greenbriar West ES.  Your partnership is essential in creating a positive and enriching learning environment for our students.  Today, the luncheon was filled with laughter, smiles, and joy.  We appreciate everyone helping to make this a special community event.

Next week will be a very short week where FCPS has scheduled our Thanksgiving Break holidays. There will be no school on Wednesday 11/27, Thursday 11/28, and Friday 11/29.  We are excited for our students, staff, and families to have this much needed break.

We hope this Thanksgiving break provides your family with an opportunity to relax, recharge, and create lasting memories. Please stay safe and healthy during this time.

Happy Thanksgiving GBW

Mr. Blount and Mrs. Odom

Woodson High School Re-Dedicated in Honor GBW Student’s great-great uncle (Carter G. Woodson)

Fairfax County Public Schools recently had a renaming dedication ceremony to rename Woodson High School to Carter G. Woodson High School on Thursday, October 24, 2024.  Greenbriar West ES is particularly proud of this event because one of our students from GBW, Carter G. Woodson Smith, is the great-great nephew of Carter G. Woodson (Photo shown below by Karen Bolt/Fairfax County Public Schools).  Carter, we are so proud of your great-great uncle and his accomplishments that earned him the recognition to have Carter G. Woodson High School named after him.  For those interested in learning more about Carter G. Woodson’s accomplishments and the naming of the high school, please see this article from Northern Virginia Magazine: https://northernvirginiamag.com/family/education/2024/10/24/woodson-high-school-re-dedicated-in-honor-of-new-namesake-carter-g-woodson/

Fed Impact Aid

Federal Impact Aid

The Federal Impact Aid Survey will be available to complete in ParentVue starting on Monday, October 21st. The Federal Impact Aid program provides money to districts that enroll federally connected students. Help FCPS secure funding from the Impact Aid Program by helping us identify:

  • Military families.
  • Federally connected families.
  • Families living on a military base.

Please complete one form for each child in your household. Remember that only the enrolling parent can fill out the Impact Aid Survey form. For families without access to ParentVUE, a paper copy of the form will be sent home with your student starting November 12. Your information will be kept strictly confidential.

Your support will ensure that we receive the resources for which we are eligible.
