Former Calgary woman who claimed to have cancer now charged in meat purchase scam
A former Calgary woman charged in an elaborate cancer fraud case in 2018 is now being accused in a meat purchase scam that defrauded 16 Albertans. Three Hills RCMP launched a fraud investigation in December 2023 after a substantial order of meat was not delivered to customers as promised. Krysta-Lyn Williams, 36, of Penticton, B.C., has been charged with fraud over $5,000.

Calgary Public Library to accept and process returns as it recovers from cyberattack
As of tomorrow, users will be able to access their accounts as the Calgary Public Library slowly reinstates digital services knocked out by an attempted ransomware attack more than a month ago. Library locations will be able to accept and process returns and holds, and all current loans will be extended until Dec. 16 with no late fines. |
Bomb cyclone in B.C.: Hurricane-force winds leave 225,000 people without power
Hurricane-force winds of up to 159 km/h have slammed into parts of the British Columbia Coast as a massive storm swirling off Vancouver Island severed highways and cut power to about 225,000 people. BC Hydro says most of the blacked-out customers were on Vancouver Island, but there were also dozens of outages across Metro Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast. |
