Welcome back to Your Midday Sun where Sportsnet's World Series coverage is blessed to have former Toronto Blue Jay Kevin Pillar sitting in. And while he is five seasons and a whopping eight Major League Baseball teams removed from his time with the Jays, the veteran outfielder seems to still have a strong understanding of the Toronto fan base, Rob Longley writes.
And judging by his comments during Game 3, Pillar, a free agent once again, also has some opinions on the controversial exit of another popular Toronto player — his former teammate, Los Angeles Dodger outfielder Teoscar Hernandez, who has been a huge reason L.A. has opened up a 3-0 lead over the Yankees (and could complete the sweep in Yankee Stadium tonight).

Over the weekend, Toronto budget chief Shelley Carroll conducted a mock budget session with listeners on Newstalk1010 Toronto and Jerry Agar gave her credit for doing it.
However, things took a turn when she was asked why Toronto still adheres to a policy that only allows contracts — on an estimated $1.65 billion in construction — to companies whose workers belong to a group of favoured unions. ALSO:
• York Regional Police are looking for witnesses after a civilian intervened in an attempted carjacking in the Major Mackenzie and Weston Rds. area of Vaughan last week. • A 31-year-old Toronto man has been identified as the victim in a fatal shooting in the Yonge St. and Sheppard Ave. area last week.
• Halton Regional Police have charged three people with several drug offences following a vehicle rollover on the QEW in Burlington that killed one man earlier this year.
• Ontario residents can now get an updated COVID-19 vaccine as well as a flu shot at participating pharmacies, public health units and doctors' offices — and yes, it’s safe to get them at the same time.
• The municipality of South Bruce, located south of Owen Sound, is the second willing to become the site of a deep geological repository for Canada’s nuclear waste.
• City officials and Toronto Police have launched a campaign designed to ease demand on 911 emergency dispatch efforts, because apparently people still need to be reminded that it should only be used for police, fire or medical emergencies when immediate action is required. |
The Bloc Quebecois is poised to begin talks with other parties to bring down the minority Liberal government.
Bloc Leader Yves-Francois Blanchet (pictured above) set the deadline last month, putting the Liberals on notice that to avoid an election "before Christmas" they must adopt a pair of key private member’s bills — which the Liberals, unsurprisingly, have not done.
ALSO: • Premier Scott Moe and the Saskatchewan Party won a fifth consecutive majority government, losing in the big cities but retaining its iron grip on rural areas to secure the victory. • Hezbollah announced that it has chosen cleric Naim Kassem to lead the Lebanese militant group after last month's killing of its longtime leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike on a Beirut suburb. • An 11-year-old boy died in hospital and four others were seriously hurt after a mother crashed a car through a Melbourne school's fence.
• Four people were injured after a tram derailed in downtown Oslo and plowed into a phone and computer shop.
• A huge explosion of fireworks injured more than 150 people at a religious festival in a temple in southern India.
• Longtime Donald Trump ally Steve Bannon was released from prison after serving a four-month sentence for defying a subpoena in the congressional investigation into the U.S. Capitol attack on Jan. 6, 2021. |
Are you sick of all your so-called reusable grocery store-style bags? Brian Lilley sure is, and he wants to go back to the days when it was still an option to get plastic and paper bags which, by the way, aren't as beneficial to the environment as government and corporations want us to believe. |
