Homeownership Rate

3rd Qtr 2024: 65.6*

3rd Qtr 2023: 66.0

The homeownership rate of 65.6 percent was not statistically different from the rate in the third quarter 2023 (66.0 percent). Compared to the third quarter 2023, the homeownership rate was lower in the West and not statistically different in the Northeast, Midwest, and South.

 

Rental Vacancy Rate

3rd Qtr 2024: 6.9*

3rd Qtr 2023: 6.6

The rental vacancy rate of 6.9 percent was not statistically different from the rate in the third quarter 2023 (6.6 percent). Compared to the third quarter 2023, the rental vacancy rate was higher in the Northeast and not statistically different in the Midwest, South, and West.

(*)The 90% confidence interval includes zero. The Census Bureau does not have sufficient statistical evidence to conclude that the actual change is different from zero. (°) Statistical significance is not applicable or not measurable for these surveys. The Manufacturers’ Shipments, Inventories and Orders estimates are not based on a probability sample, so we can neither measure the sampling error of these estimates nor compute confidence intervals. (r) Revised. All estimates are seasonally adjusted except for the Rental Vacancy Rate, Home Ownership Rate, Quarterly Financial Report for Retail Trade, and Quarterly Services Survey. None of the estimates are adjusted for price changes.
