Join foreign law specialists Jenny Gesley and Elin Hofverberg on Thursday, October 29 at 2:00 p.m. EDT as they discuss the regulation of gender self-determination in select European jurisdictions. In particular, the webinar will focus on the existence of gender self-determination laws, the possibility of identifying as a third gender, the rules for changing legal gender, and the use of “X” as a gender marker in passports, among other topics. Similarities and differences in the countries' approaches will be highlighted.

On Thursday, November 7, at 1:00 p.m. EST, join the Law Library of Congress for an Orientation to Legal Research Webinar focusing on Federal Legislative History. This entry in the series provides an overview of U.S. federal legislative history resources, including information about the methods of identifying and locating them. In tackling this area of research, the focus will largely be on finding these documents online. We will highlight freely-available governmental websites like Congress.gov, GovInfo, and Law.gov, and quickly touch on subscription databases that can be accessed at one’s local public law or academic library.

The Library of Congress is seeking applicants for its next Junior Fellows Program, a summer internship held from May 19 through July 25, 2025. This 10-week, full-time paid internship is open to undergraduate and graduate students and recent graduates interested in learning and conducting research using the resources of the largest library in the world. Remote and onsite project opportunities are available.The deadline to apply is Monday, Nov. 18, 2024.
The 2025 Junior Fellows Program will host approximately 40 Junior Fellows working on 35 projects across the Library of Congress. Junior Fellows will work with Library mentors on a diverse slate of projects that enhance access and engagement with the collections.

The incumbent serves as the Collections Storage and Retrieval Supervisor in the Collections Management Division (CMD), Preservation Directorate, Discovery and Preservation Services, in Library Collections and Services Group with responsibility for supervising, scheduling, and directing a workforce comprised of subordinate supervisors and leaders, and through them, a large staff of library technicians and material handlers. Under the broad guidelines of the Assistant Chief the incumbent is responsible for overseeing and directing the retrieval, storage, and distribution operations of the Library’s general collections stored on Capitol Hill and all collections stored at Offsite storage facilities.

The Literary Initiatives Volunteer Internship Program is designed for individuals who are studying English or Creative Writing, Library Science, and other related subjects in the field. It is intended to offer training for those looking to have a career in arts administration, publishing, and public programming.
Interns will assist with the office's literary programs: the National Book Festival, literary event series, and special and ongoing projects. Interns will also assist with programs including those related to literary ambassador positions such as the U.S. Poet Laureate, the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, and the winner of the Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction and assist the office in its day-to-day activities.
The Library benefits by having assistance in the Literary Initiatives (LIT) office and by further connecting to the local literary community. If accepted, LIT interns commit to working at least twelve hours per week, including assisting with weekday, evening, weekend, and virtual programs. For students wanting careers in literary public programming, this experience is invaluable.
Please Note: The application period is currently open for the Fall/Winter 2024 semester.
Possible Tasks: - Research authors and review publisher catalogs - Organize book and author information provided by publicists - Brainstorm and contribute ideas - Recommend connections with Library of Congress collections - Assist with literary ambassador programs - Write, proofread, and review website content - Write author bios and event descriptions - Contribute to Bookmarked blog - Organize and keep event information up-to-date - Assist in creating promotional content for social media - Perform other tasks as assigned
