Govt looks Northeast for infra development

This week’s pick is the highways sector.


The Union government recently announced a plethora of road projects in the Northeastern states of Manipur and Tripura.These projects will boost infrastructure development in the Northeastern states, which are inordinately considered remote.

This will provide the states with advanced infrastructure, thereby increasing its tourism potential and help leverage its economic growth.

These states have tremendous tourism potential, which can be harnessed with world class infrastructure.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways approved 50 national highway projects with a total length of 1026 km in Manipur and sanctioned projects worth Rs 2800 crore in Tripura.

Of the total projects announced in Manipur, at present, 44 projects totaling 902 km are located in the state's hills out of which 36 projects of Rs 12000 crore for 777 km are in progress, while eight projects totaling 125 km have already been completed.

For Tripura, he projects include Rs 800 crore for the Agartala Eastern Bypass, Rs 1,500 crore for widening the Amtali to Tripura Sundari Temple road, Rs 400 crore for developing the road from Ranirbazar to inter-state bus terminus (ISBT) and an additional Rs 100 crore under the Central Road Fund (CRF), it said.
