This is a reminder to check the Gulf of Mexico HAB Forecast System, linked above, for up-to-date conditions. Karenia brevis continues to be present offshore of the southwest Florida coast from Pasco to Sarasota counties. FWRI and partners confirmed the presence of K. brevis offshore of Clearwater Beach. A similarly intense patch of high Chl-a is observed in satellite imagery offshore of Sarasota. Offshore winds are forecasted through Friday, which should keep the high Chl-a patches offshore.
This bulletin provides forecast updates and reminders of the Karenia brevis harmful algal blooms (HABs) in southwestern Florida. Please find up-to-date analysis, satellite imagery, and forecasts at the Gulf of Mexico HAB Forecast System.
Subscribers will receive notices of changes or improvements to the forecasting system. Subscribers will also be periodically reminded to check the HAB Forecast System, especially when there are major changes in bloom status.
