Because you’ve taken a strategy course with us, we think you’ll like our new course, Applied Futures Thinking.
Futures thinking tends to show up at the start of strategy work. Teams explore what could change first, then use that wider view to anchor the choices that follow. The result is strategy that accounts for several possible futures, not just the most likely one.
What people are asking
Wondering if this course is for you? Here are some questions we're hearing. Check out the course FAQs for more.
1
Who should take this course?
Anyone who owns or shapes where their organization or function is headed over the next 3 to 5 years, like VPs, directors, and rising leaders in strategy, innovation, product, or transformation. You'll find value if your current strategy can't keep up with the pace of change.
2
How is this course different from other strategic foresight or futuring courses?
Most foresight training either stays abstract or reaches far into the future, which makes for interesting thinking but doesn't tell you what to do in this planning cycle. IDEO's approach to Futures Thinking is near-term and grounded in how people's needs and behaviors are shifting.
3
Do I need experience to join?
No prior foresight training is needed.
4
How much time does this take?
Plan on about 4 to 5 hours a week for five weeks, including optional live cohort conversations. The course is designed for working professionals, so there's flexibility built in, with reading, videos and activities you can do on your own time.
5
Is this a course about AI or predicting technology?
No. This is a course about how people will live, work, and choose in the years ahead, and what your organization should do about it. Technology is one of five forces you'll scan with the STEEP framework, alongside social, economic, environmental, and political shifts.
6
Will my company pay for this course?
Often, yes. Many of our learners use their learning and development budget on courses, and our guide to asking your manager to cover the cost shows how to make the case, with an email you can adapt. You can also split the cost into installments through Shop Pay.
