It was lovely to get out and see all the riders and horses at the Orana Equestrian Club Official Dressage Championships over the weekend. What a fantastic venue the showground is, with both indoor and outdoor arenas and a nice calm atmosphere for the horses. The passionate committee did a great job of putting the two-day event together and I was particularly impressed by the sponsorship support shown by local businesses.

It was heartening to see just how many sponsors were behind this event, with some long-term partnerships stretching back decades. The community backing these partnerships provides a financial lifeblood for volunteer-run organisations and without their spirit and goodwill it would be impossible for these events to succeed like they do.

Now, Dollymine beckons … I must go find my biggest, blondest wig!

Turtles rescued from the Gingham Waterhole in north-west NSW have begun returning, while keepers at Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo incubate more than 250 eggs laid by females brought into care. 

The pool in the western NSW town of Walgett will remain closed this summer, with council finding it was unsafe and beyond repair.

A once-abundant snail nearly disappeared as weirs and irrigation diverted water from its river home. But it found protection in the very structures that almost wiped it out.
