I remember meeting Richard Morecroft at his house in the Shoalhaven in 2017 for an interview.
I wanted to do a story about his illustrious career presenting ABC TV news, and his other life as an artist, conservationist and freelance presenter. But I also just wanted to meet him.
As well as being every bit as affable as he appeared on TV, he was just as friendly and generous off air. He was a man who had mastered the work/life balance. He called time on a 20-year career he could've comfortably continued doing for another 20 years to move out of the city, care for the country and its wildlife and pursue his love of art which he shared with his wife Alison. He was welcomed into the Shoalhaven with open arms and immersed himself in the community.
We'll all miss him.
Have a great week, and remember, If you have a story for the ABC Illawarra team please drop an email to 973@your.abc.net.au.
