Principal's Message
Hello Langley Families,
We had an awesome week at Langley celebrating Homecoming. It was great to see our students and staff engaged in Spirit Week, our Pep Rally, and the lead-up to the weekend.
We celebrated our Blue Star (Military Connected) students this week. We brought these students together with our student ambassadors and our Military Buddies student club to connect and share experiences.
We also celebrated our Custodial Staff on Friday for National Custodian Day. A big thank you to the PTSA for providing breakfast and dinner for our staff. We have the best building in FCPS due to these folks.
We have had a great start to the year with our cell phone and personal device policies. The overwhelming majority of our students have adjusted to the changes. We have noticed an increase in personal laptops coming in each morning. I need your help; please talk with your students about leaving personal devices at home. They are not needed for schoolwork at Langley and are not permitted during our school day. Thank you for continuing these conversations with your students.

PSAT/SAT SCHOOL DAY - October 7, 2026
October 7 is an early release day for Langley students.
All 10th and 11th graders will take the PSAT/NMSQT, the qualifying test for National Merit, while opt-in seniors will take the SAT School Day. Seniors who did not opt in SAT School Day and freshmen do not attend school on October 7; it’s an unscheduled school day for them.
Students must use a fully charged FCPS Chromebook to take the digital PSAT/SAT.
Students must bring their FULLY CHARGED school-issued Chromebook and charger on October 7. Loaner Chromebooks and chargers are not available.
On September 22, students performed a digital readiness check for the upcoming PSAT/SAT School Day exam in their advisory period. It is important that students have their Chromebook and Bluebook test ticket to complete this task to ensure a smooth testing experience on exam day. Please remind your student that the digital readiness check must be done PRIOR to test day.
On September 30, your student will receive an email with their testing location. Parents will be copied to that email.
Reach out to sdterry@fcps.edu with questions.

College Visits
LHS will be hosting college and university admission representatives for information sessions for junior and senior students. The complete and the most up to date list of visits is available in Naviance; a weekly list will be shared on the Class of 2027 and Class of 2028 Schoology pages as well as through News You Choose.
These visits are for students only and require a signed pass from their teacher to attend; passes are available outside of the Career Center. Attending class should be the priority, students should not miss a test, quiz, or presentation to attend a visit. If students cannot attend, they can contact Ms. Burke for the admission representative's contact information.

Wellness Screening
Mental health problems can develop in adolescence which is full of emotions for teens. Some of these emotions are actually mental illnesses. Depression is among the most common mental illnesses. Depression is treatable; however, it is a leading risk factor for suicide. To proactively address mental illness, Langley High School is providing a mental wellness screening and suicide prevention training as part of the SOS Signs of Suicide Prevention Program. Junior Parents were emailed on Thursday, July 30th with additional information regarding this program. Freshman and Sophomores parents will receive more information in the coming weeks.

Calendar Change: Eid al-Fitr
FCPS will mark the beginning of Eid al-Fitr with an evening-only observance day on Monday, March 8. There will be school on this day, but major school-sponsored events and activities (such as auditions or tryouts) will not take place.
Tuesday, March 9, will be a holiday for students and staff.
Wednesday, March 10, will be an observance day. There will be school on this day, but certain activities that cannot be made up (major tests, field trips, or mandatory events) will not take place on this day.
A new school year calendar has been published, which includes this change. Please note that holidays and observances on the calendar may shift due to anticipated lunar sightings.
Safe Routes to School Parent and Caregiver Survey
As part of the Fairfax County School Board’s Annual School-Based Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Assessment, the FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are inviting parents and caregivers to share their experiences traveling to and from school.
The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss and ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns.
Your feedback will help FCPS identify common issues. Your responses will be kept confidential and shared with school administrators and the Office of Safety and Security. The five-minute survey is open through Thursday, October 15.
Be sure to identify the school related to your feedback and include specific locations where you have observed a safety issue. If you have students at different schools in FCPS, please complete a different survey for each school.
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact SafeRoutestoSchool@fcps.edu.
AAP Centers
FCPS Seeks Community Input on Middle School AAP Centers
FCPS is exploring a plan to offer Full-Time Advanced Academic Program (AAP) services at every middle school. Under the proposal, students who qualify could attend their neighborhood middle school and take advanced classes with other AAP students. The School Board has approved community engagement at Franklin, Hayfield, Holmes, Key, and Whitman middle schools, where programs could open for the 2027-28 school year. The proposal is still under consideration, and the School Board is expected to make a decision in December.
Each community meeting offers in-person and virtual participation. Upcoming meetings are scheduled for:
-
Franklin Middle: Monday, October 5, at 6 p.m.
-
Holmes Middle: Thursday, October 15, at 6 p.m.
-
Whitman Middle: Thursday, October 22, at 6 p.m.
Current middle school students will remain at their assigned AAP centers through middle school. Learn more and find meeting sign-up forms on the Middle School AAP Centers page.
