Message from Mrs. Castillo

Primary Classroom Visits

Thank you for helping our staff have the professional time last Wednesday!  The three hours were put to good use of training, planning time, grading, and collaborative meetings for our staff.  Last week we also had our individual and class photos, the first SCA Officer meeting, field trips for grades 2 & 3, the September PTA general meeting, and 4th Grade PBL Share with our parents & caregivers.  We kept busy!

As the temperatures are dropping, please check to determine if you or your child is in need of a coat or jacket.  If so, please contact our Family Liaison, Katy Reyes Gomez at kereyesgomez@fcps.edu.  If you notice you have jackets your family has outgrown, drop them off in the lobby to help another family in need.

Looking ahead to this week, Lemon Road will participate in the International Walk and Roll to School Day on Wednesday, October 7th .   This day promotes physical activity and a reduction in traffic congestion and pollution near schools.  Students and staff are encouraged to bike or walk to school and parents are encouraged to join the fun!  Get more information about Walk to School Day.

LRES Parent Reminders

  • Please be sure all jackets, sweatshirts, and hoodies are labeled to ensure they are returned to their owner when left on school grounds.
  • Visitors to school events download the Raptor Safe App prior to visiting Lemon Road.  Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of an event to ensure time for the check-in process.
  • All students are expected to wear their LRES polos on field trip days.  Please ensure your child has their polo ready for upcoming fall trips.
  • Students in grades 4 - 6 should bring their agendas home each night.  Parents/guardians should regularly check their child's agenda.
  • All parents must provide consent for your child to access some digital resources used at school through the Parent Digital Consent System.
  • Apply for Free/Reduced Lunch which also gives opportunities for scholarships for other school events and fees.  New applications are required every year.  If your family needs assistance with scholarships or supplies, apply using the link above and contact Mrs. Reyes Gomez (Family Liaison) at kereyesgomez@fcps.edu.
  • Parents/legal guardians should submit full-day absences using ParentVUE. FCPS school attendance policies will be enforced. Parents will be held accountable for students who do not attend school regularly.

  • Add money to your child's lunch account using MySchoolBucks.  Check out what is being served each month in the cafeteria using MealViewer.
  • Families new to Fairfax County who are interested in referring their 3rd - 6th grader for full-time AAP Services may do so by October 15.

LRES PTA Updates

Polos and Field Trips

Our PTA is hard at work.  Thank you Room Parents for helping ensure all students have a polo for their fall field trips. Here are current PTA initiatives:

  1. Baroody Registration: Last call for after school enrichment for the fall!  Sign your child up for volleyball, chess, mindfulness and more by registering here!
  2. Donate your gently used coats and winter gear: For the entire month of October, the PTA is collecting gently used coats and winter gear of any size. The coats are washed and then exchanged with other local schools to ensure all kids have warm gear for the winter.
  3. September PTA Meeting: Thank you to all our parents and staff that joined us for the first PTA meeting of the year.  Please mark your calendars for our October meeting on Wednesday, October 14.
  4. Restaurant Night: Our next restaurant night is at Plaka Grill on October 20 from 11 AM - 9 PM.

We Need YOU:  Joining the PTA is a key indicator that you support the school-home partnership that we foster.  Email lemonroadpta@gmail.com to get involved!

Calendar Change: Eid al-Fitr

FCPS will mark the beginning of Eid al-Fitr with an evening-only observance day on Monday, March 8. There will be school on this day, but major school-sponsored events and activities (such as auditions or tryouts) will not take place.

Tuesday, March 9, will be a holiday for students and staff.  Wednesday, March 10, will be an observance day. There will be school on this day, but certain activities that cannot be made up will not take place on this day.

A new school year calendar has been published, which includes this change. Please note that holidays and observances on the calendar may shift due to anticipated lunar sightings.

Safe Routes to School Parent and Caregiver Survey

As part of the Fairfax County School Board’s Annual School-Based Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Assessment, the FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are inviting parents and caregivers to share their experiences traveling to and from school.

The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss and ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns.

Your feedback will help FCPS identify common issues. Your responses will be kept confidential and shared with school administrators and the Office of Safety and Security. The five-minute survey is open through Thursday, October 15. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact SafeRoutestoSchool@fcps.edu.
