Fall Weekly Recaps

Golf completed their team part of the season with the National District Championship this past Monday at Twin Lakes. Two golfers in Carter Demers (a repeated representative) and Zach Noyes scored well and qualified to represent the Atoms in the Occoquan Region Tournament on Monday at Twin Lakes.

Girls Volleyball continue their hot streak in the National District as they took care of business Tuesday evening at home vs Lewis, winning 3-1, to move to 6-2. The Atoms split their other two non-districts matches, beating Park View but falling to Osbourn. The Atoms have a big game Monday evening when they host Edison.

Boys Volleyball went 1-2 in their three matches this week. They beat non-district opponent Park View Monday, but fell to Lewis and Osbourn on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Atoms sit sixth in district play and travel to Edison Monday. 

Field Hockey went 2-0 on their week with a district and non-district game. The Atoms dismantled district rival Edison Wednesday 5-0 to move to 4-0 in district play. The Atoms showed some stamina as they turned around the next day and took down Wakefield 1-0. Next is a huge matchup with Hayfield Monday evening.

Football welcome district rival Justice to J. Wallace Bolding Stadium Friday evening for Homecoming! Mother nature was not kind to the spectators as a steady rain fell for most of the evening but the Atoms football team treated the spectators to a dominant performance on their way to a 35-0 win! The Atoms came out strong, scoring 21 in the first quarter, only to add another TD in the second quarter to take a 27-0 lead at the half. They tacked on a final one in the third to give the final score. The Atoms defense continued to showed strength as they held the Wolves to another shutout, especially in the second half, as they Atoms have only given up 7 total points in the second half of their six games! The Atoms travel to Edison Friday evening.

Boys and Girls Cross Country competed at South Run on Wednesday and came away with some impressive runs, The girls team ran well, with several runners hitting personal best times in their preparation for the district championship meet in two weeks. The boys had four runners in Dagmawi, Ryan, Leland, and Lucas finishing in the top 10. The Atoms hit the trail on Wednesday at Mason District for Senior Night.

Cheerleading competed in a their first competition of the year Wednesday evening at Lewis. The Atoms demonstrated their hard work and dedication that they've been putting in since August, placing 7th! The Atoms are working hard in their preparation for the National District Championship Meet on October 14th and 21st, both dates at Hayfield!

Flag Football got their season underway on Tuesday as they took on Wakefield and TJ. The Atoms played hard in their first gameplay of the season but were unable to overcome the Warriors and Colonials. The Atoms travel to Falls Church Wednesday.

All athletes interested in trying out must have a completed VHSL Physical on file. You can find VHSL Physicals HERE

Friday Night Lights UPDATES

Starting this fall there are updates coming to Friday Night Football Games! Starting with the first home football game on Thursday, September 3, all spectators will follow updated entry and bag policy guidelines that can be found below:

To help provide a safe and enjoyable experience and to expedite entrance into FCPS athletic events, students, family members and all spectators are reminded that the following items are prohibited:

  • Backpacks
  • Large Purse
  • Fanny Pack
  • Tote Bags
  • Outside food and beverage
  • Sporting equipment (balls, bats, sticks, etc.)

Middle-school students and younger must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Approved bags are limited to:

  • Clear plastic, vinyl, or pvc bags
  • Small clutch bag no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”
  • Medical and diaper bags permitted but subject to inspection

Atoms Boosters Passes

The Atoms Booster Club’s All-Season passes are back! This year our Atoms Athletic Boosters is transitioning to a digital format for the all-season passes. The developers are still working on it, and it will be rolled out soon. 

Pricing for the '26-'27 season will be, Adult - $80, Student - $40, and Parking Pass - $30.  

The "Atoms Pass" provides you general admission access to all regular season home football, baseball, basketball, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, volleyball, and wrestling events. With more than nine sports showcased, you can save BIG with the all-season pass!

Field Hockey Youth Clinic

Do you have a K-8 grader who is interested in playing field hockey?! Then sign up for our youth clinics and learn more about the game while working on skills and development to become a better field hockey player. Clinics will run Saturday mornings from September 12 to October 17!

Purchase a Red Card!

Each fall, our sports programs sell a discount “Red Card” to raise money for their teams. The red cards include various discounts at local businesses including: Glory Days, Subways, Jet’s Pizza, Kilroy’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Dairy Queen, Lucky Strike, and AHS Sports Camps. Red Cards are only $20 and can be used at any of the businesses through October 1, 2027. If you would like to purchase a Red Card, please reach out to a fall athlete or email Brandon Sutphin

Do you need a physical for 2026-2027?! 

Go to PM Pediatrics Urgent Care in Spingfield or Fairfax and get your physical for $25 during the week or $50 on the weekends.

New Athletic/Activity Registration

We are very excited to announce that Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Student Activities and Athletics has partnered with FinalForms, an online forms and data management service, for student registration for athletics and activities.

FinalForms allows you to complete and sign athletic forms for your students online. FCPS and FinalForms have worked closely to ensure that your most sensitive information is safeguarded and meets all of FCPS’ rigorous data protection requirements.

Emails to a parent's email address on SIS should have been sent Monday, July 6 through Tuesday, July 7. If you did not receive your invitation email to create your FinalForms account, please reach out directly to the Annandale Activities Office, DSA: Brandon Sutphin or Admin Assistant: Nicole Salgado Lopez

New VHSL Transfer Information

ALL TRANSFER STUDENTS by default are INELIGIBLE. More information can be found on the FCPS Website.

The NEW Guardian application process must be started before the transfer students is considered "bona fide".

ALL Transfer students must complete the Guardian application process to be declared eligible.

NO TRANSFER IS ELIGIBLE UNTIL THERE IS NOTICE FROM THE GUARDIAN SYSTEM THAT INCLUDES A VHSL CITATION AND POST SEASON ELIGIBILITY.
