Cherry Creek 4-1 1 W (37-21 at Cherokee Trail) Comment: So much for the off-field distractions. Back on the field against Cherokee Trail, the top-ranked Bruins were all business. This week: vs. Arapahoe (1-4), 7 p.m., Oct. 2. 2. Valor Christian 3-2 3 W (49-0 at Castle View) Comment: Valor might have two losses, but nobody has played a tougher schedule. Given that one loss came to national power Mater Dei in California and the other to No. 1 Cherry Creek in a battle that the Eagles led for all but 9 seconds, this ranking is just right. This week: vs. No. 10 Legend (3-2), 7 p.m., Oct. 2. 3.  Mountain Vista 4-1 4 W (42-13 at Riverdale Ridge) Comment: CSU commit Marquise Reese was 18 of 28 for 252 yards and three TDs and his favorite target Luke Bentley caught four balls for 114 yards in the win over the Ravens. This week: at No. 5 Ralston Valley (4-1), 7 p.m., Oct. 1. . 4. Eaglecrest 5-0 5 W (27-13 at Mullen) Comment:  The Raptors have done nothing but win this season. And in the rugged Centennial League, that’s the only stat that matters. It’s put up or shut up on Thursday night in the battle for southeast Aurora bragging rights. This week: vs. No. 8 Grandview (4-1),  7 p.m., Oct. 1 5. Ralston Valley 4-1 6 W (42-7 at Rock Canyon) Comment: Mustangs QB Logan Gabler had a big night against the winless Jaguars, going 21 of 25 for 273 yards and a TD. The Mustangs get a much bigger test this Thursday. This week: vs. No. 3 Mountain Vista (4-1), 7 p.m., Oct. 1. 6. Northfield 5-0 9 W (10-6 at Grandview) Comment: Beware of the Nighthawks, who remain perfect in their inaugural season in the Centennial League after close wins over Mullen and Grandview. This week: at Heritage (3-2), 6 p.m., Oct. 1. 7. Fort Collins 5-0 7 W (42-35 vs. Legacy) Comment: The Lambkins led 35-7 at the half before the Lightning Bolt got charged up in the second half. Fort Collins junior QB Jace Garcia was 24 of 34 for 301 yards and five TDs in the win. This week: at Arvada West (0-5), 4 p.m., Oct. 2. 8. Grandview 4-1 2 W (28-10 vs. Frederick) Comment: The Wolves led 6-0 at the half against the Nighthawks, but couldn’t put any additional points on the board in a defensive struggle. The schedule doesn’t get any easier in Week 6. This week: at No. 4 Eaglecrest (5-0), 7 p.m., Oct. 1. 9. ThunderRidge 5-0 10 W (40-7 at Arvada West) Comment: Grizzlies QB Noah Smyth was 10 of 20 for 191 yards and three TDs in the win over the Wildcats. This week: vs Columbine (3-1), 7 p.m., Oct. 1.  10. Legend 3-2 NR W (41-17 vs. Arapahoe) Comment: The Titans lost a close one to Grandview in Week 1 and took Cherry Creek to overtime. They’re back in the top 10 this week, with a huge test looming against Valor. This week: at No. 2 Valor Christian (3-2), 7 p.m., Oct. 2. Class 4A Team Record Previous Last week 1. Broomfield 5-0 1 W (30-7 at Denver South) Comment: Outside of a 24-18 win over Monarch back in Week 2, no one has really tested the Eagles this season. Broomfield has outscored opponents 195-75. This week: vs. Fruita Monument (4-1), 6 p.m., Oct. 2. 2. Montrose 4-1 2 W (46-7 at Rampart) Comment: The Red Hawks got back to dominating in 4A in their first game back from a bye after a tough 40-33 loss to Mountain Vista, which is now up to No. 3 in the 5A rankings. Now it’s on to a showdown against the best team in 3A.  This week: vs. Palmer Ridge (5-0), 6 p.m., Oct. 2. 3. Ponderosa 5-0 4 W (21-13 at Horizon) Comment: Mustangs QB Colter Espinoza was 20 of 25 for 217 yards and two TDs in the win over Horizon. This week: vs. Highlands Ranch (3-2), 1 p.m., Oct. 3. 4. Douglas County 5-0 5 W (47-17 at Highlands Ranch) Comment: The Huskies have averaged nearly 40 points a game in five wins while allowing an average of 17 points.  This week: at Smoky Hill (2-3), 7 p.m., Oct. 1.  5. Bear Creek 5-0 6 W (49-13 vs. Mountain Range) Comment: Maybe the Monarch Coyotes can give the Bears a game this week, because nobody else has. Bear Creek has outscored opponents 218-61. That’s not a typo. This week: vs. Monarch (4-1), 7 p.m., Oct. 1.  6. Loveland 5-0 10 W (21-6 at 5A Grand Junction) Comment: The Red Wolves make the biggest jump this week after defanging the 5A Tigers in convincing fashion. This week: vs. Greeley West (2-3), 7 p.m., Oct. 2.  7. Mesa Ridge 5-1 7 W (48-0 at Widefield) Comment: The Grizzlies’ lone loss came against Palmer Ridge, last year’s 4A runner-up that looks all but certain to win this year’s 3A title after dropping down a classification. Outside of that 35-12 defeat, Mesa Ridge has scored at least four touchdowns in each of its wins and has eclipsed the 40-point mark four times, including a 50-0 result against Discovery Canyon. This week: on bye. 8. Longmont 5-0 NR W (29-22 at Greeley West) Comment: It’s time to give the Trojans some respect after running their record to 5-0 after two close wins over Poudre and Greeley West. This week: vs. Frederick (3-2), Oct. 2, 7 p.m.,  9. Cheyenne Mountain 4-1 9 W (35-7 at Coronado) Comment: Junior RB Colt Kugler had 17 carries for 121 yards and three touchdowns in the rout of Coronado. won at Coronado (2-3), 35-7. This week: at Widefield (1-4), 7 p.m., Oct. 2.  10. Monarch 4-1 10 W (50-6 vs. Northridge) Comment: The Coyotes emerge out of the wilderness to re-enter the top 10 and can move up quickly if they can take down the unbeaten No. 5 Bears this week.  Red Hawks have outscored opponents 161-58.
