The sale of nearly 50 F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia represents a policy shift for the US that has raised concerns from some members of Congress, writes correspondent Tom Bateman. The $24bn (£17.8bn) deal, which Congress has 30 days to scrutinise or attempt to block, has long been sought by Saudi Arabia, as the jets are the world's most advanced warplane, equipped with stealth technology that allows it to evade enemy detection. Previous administrations had resisted, partly because F-35s are also supplied to Israel, and Democratic lawmakers and defence officials have raised concerns about Riyadh's security partnership with China.
