Mohammad Sharifullah was the only person convicted in connection with the attack at Kabul airport’s Abbey Gate during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. The jury convicted Sharifullah of helping ISIS leaders that day but did not find that the prosecution had sufficiently proved that the man’s role in the attack directly resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. service members.
