The statistics are gobsmacking: Nearly 40 per cent of Canadian workers say they feel burned out often or always, according to a 2025 survey. Leadership coach Kadine Cooper calls it
“quiet cracking,”
the phase when a person is still seemingly fine, still delivering on goals and objectives, and yet something is weighing on them. Burnout is different than just being busy or overwhelmed, writes Cooper. It happens when your work no longer reflects who you are or what you value – and those who are able to recognize the signs are the ones who find their way back.
