Obesity is a major driver of poor health outcomes and health care costs in the United States. Improving nutrition, physical activity, and healthy weight management is a key priority of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Strategy. As the dominant delivery system for Medicaid and CHIP, managed care is a key lever for advancing healthy weight management. States can promote these efforts through managed care plan contracts, oversight, and accountability mechanisms that include quality measurement and quality improvement activities.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is hosting a webinar focused on improving nutrition, physical activity, and healthy weight management among Medicaid and CHIP populations. The webinar will feature national data and evidence-based strategies and will highlight how states are using managed care levers to promote healthy weight management. State Medicaid and CHIP programs will share promising approaches, including challenges encountered, strategies used to address barriers, and lessons learned from implementation.
CMS invites state Medicaid and CHIP Directors and quality staff, managed care plans, providers, public health agencies, external quality review organizations, community-based organizations, and other quality improvement partners to participate in this important webinar.
