Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is highlighting several data products the agency released during the month of August:

Medicare Provider Payment and Utilization Public Use Files – Annual Update

The Provider Payment and Utilization Public Use Files are provider-level data products that summarize service utilization and payments in the Original Medicare (Fee-for-Service) and Part D programs.  The following files now include data for calendar year 2024:

  • The Skilled Nursing Facility datasets provide information on short-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation services furnished to Original Medicare beneficiaries by skilled nursing facilities under the prospective payment system.
  • The Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility datasets provide information on intensive inpatient rehabilitation services furnished to Original Medicare beneficiaries by inpatient rehabilitation facilities under the prospective payment system.
  • The Home Health Agency datasets provide information on intermittent skilled nursing, therapy, and aide services furnished to Original Medicare beneficiaries by home health agencies under the prospective payment system.
  • The Long-Term Care Hospital dataset provides information on extended acute-level hospital care furnished to Original Medicare beneficiaries by long-term care hospitals under the prospective payment system.
  • The Hospice Agency dataset provides information on hospice and palliative care furnished to terminally ill Medicare beneficiaries by hospice providers under the Medicare hospice benefit.

Restructured BETOS Classification System (RBCS) Taxonomy – Annual Update

The Restructured BETOS Classification System (RBCS) is a taxonomy that allows CMS and the research community to group healthcare service codes for Medicare Part B services into clinically meaningful categories and subcategories. This refresh includes Medicare Part B healthcare services provided between 2014 and 2025.

Medicare Enrollment – Monthly Update

The Medicare Monthly Enrollment Public Use File and Medicare Enrollment Dashboard present counts of Medicare beneficiaries with hospital/medical coverage and prescription drug coverage by geographic area and now include enrollee counts for May 2026.
