When Harry Styles announced his 30-show residency at Madison Square Garden back in January — ahead of the first single, “Aperture,” off his latest album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally. — he was eschewing the typical whirlwind that has come to define contemporary world tours (dozens of stops, obscene carbon footprint). This time, there would be seven stops across four continents. “You come to me,” Styles seemed to be saying.
Maybe that is true in Amsterdam or São Paulo. But the Garden is Styles’s only Together, Together tour location in the U.S. In New York, it feels like Styles, with his low-key downtown domesticity, is coming to us. He told Zane Lowe one of the reasons for his residency-style tour was to be able to “take care of myself better” — which is a PR-friendly way of saying it’s nice to live like many Tribeca-based 30-somethings, buying $9 coffees and popping into Whole Foods.
