Is a single juror going to prevent a verdict in the Lindsay Clancy trial? We'll bring you all of the updates from court today after yesterday's shocking development. The jury in the Lindsay Clancy trial has again been ordered to continue their deliberations after telling the judge twice in recent days that they couldn’t agree whether the Massachusetts mother is criminally responsible for killing her three children.

Jurors were brought into the courtroom around 9:10 a.m. Thursday morning and excused by the judge to continue their deliberations. Everyone returned to the courtroom around 3 p.m. and the judge immediately called attorneys to a sidebar. Clancy joined them at the sidebar, which hasn’t happened previously. The jurors were then sworn in one by one.

More than 1,300 workers at the Encore Boston Harbor are prepared to go on strike Friday morning if they’re not given a new contract by 7 a.m. at the resort casino in Everett, Massachusetts. 

The workers, part of labor union Unite Here Local 26 and Teamsters Local 25, voted in August to authorize a strike. Their contract with casino owner Wynn Resorts expired on Aug. 31, and according to the union, a new contract has not yet been negotiated. 

We got a preview Thursday night as workers protested in front of the casino, and the union president, Carlos Aramayo, has explained their demands.

Summer mounts a comeback today with highs reaching into the low 80s.

There may be a weak sea breeze at the coast, but this will be a great beach day for anyone getting an early start to the holiday weekend.

The air slowly dries out as dew points drop later this afternoon.

A man was found dead deep in the rocks of a Cape Cod jetty on Thursday morning, police said.

A fisherman alerted Sandwich police to the incident at the jetty on the east end of the Cape Cod Canal about 9 a.m., after spotting a bicycle by itself, then a tackle box down the jetty, according to the department.

An officer sent to check the area saw the man in the rocks and determined he was dead, police said. They noted that recovering the body was very difficult, and images from the scene showed first responders fanned out on the rocks, with boats nearby helping.

Jurors have been deliberating the Lindsay Clancy case for over a week now, and the prospect of a mistrial looms.

But recent high-profile Massachusetts cases show that a hung jury does not necessarily end a criminal case — and a retrial can produce a very different result.

That was the case in Karen Read‘s first trial. After five days of deliberations, the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict. Judge Beverly Cannone ultimately declared a mistrial.

An MIT professor died days after being injured in a bicycle accident in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the university said Thursday.

Thomas Rose, a 37-year-old from Berlin, Germany, was an assistant professor of materials science and an expert in ancient metalworking, MIT said.

He was injured when his bicycle and a vehicle collided at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Memorial Drive at about 6 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, Cambridge police said. Rose was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital and died on Wednesday.
