| | | | | Good morning, Chicago. My block has never hosted a party the six years I’ve lived here. But I’ve been twice to one hosted by friends in Irving Park, and so I nodded along as I read Leah Pouw’s op-ed. Pouw, an aldermanic candidate in the 45th Ward, writes today about why block parties matter in these times. It’s a lovely piece. Our other offerings cover a lot of ground. The Tribune Editorial Board looks at the misuse of Flock cameras by members of law enforcement, and the board also examines the controversy around a proposed lakefront development in Edgewater, where it detects a whiff of antisemitism. Also in commentary, columnist Steve Chapman lists the ways President Donald Trump shows a deep contempt for the freedom of the press. And in letters to the editor, our readers discuss, among many things, the Chicago Archdiocese’s response to sexual abuse allegations and how Chicago and Cook County can improve the housing situation here.
