In our last few emails, we covered what workplace English looks like in action. Today, I want to talk about something a bit more personal: the hidden cost of holding yourself back.
A global study by Pearson interviewed over 5,000 non-native English speakers. The results were striking: while the vast majority agreed that English was essential for their career, only about one in four felt genuinely confident using it when it matters most.

I think about that statistic a lot because I see it all the time. So many capable, clever people know their English matters, but still don't feel ready when the moment arrives.
When you don't feel ready, opportunities have a way of quietly slipping past:
- The promotion you decide not to go for.
- The meeting where you had the best idea in the room, but let someone else speak first.
- The job abroad you talk yourself out of before you've even finished reading the description.
One of the biggest reasons this happens is simply that you've never been shown the specific frameworks that turn good English into confident, professional English. That is something you can absolutely learn. |
This is really why I do what I do. I wanted to build something that helps you walk into those rooms and go after whatever it is you're striving for: a better job, a more senior role, higher pay or simply knowing your English will hold up when everything is riding on it. |
So before my next email, will you do one thing for me? |
Be completely honest with yourself about what you truly want: the career, the opportunities, the life you picture when you imagine things going well. Then picture how it would feel to know, really know, that your English can carry you all the way there. |
Hold on to that feeling because tomorrow I'm going to show you exactly how we get you there, together. |
Warmly,
Lucy Bella Simkins
