Up a Tree without a Squirrel
Allegra Hutton's image shows a young leopard as it chases a squirrel up a tree in Botswana's Okavango Delta.
She'd already watched the leopard try – and fail – to stalk a rabbit. The squirrel also avoided the leopard’s clumsy manoeuvres, eventually ascending too high for the leopard to follow.

Split-Second Escape
German photographer Jens Cullmann gets eye-level with an African bullfrog as it lunges for an African babul butterfly – and misses!
As adults, African bullfrogs grow up to 12 centimetres in length and spend 10 months of the year in a dormant state underground, only emerging after the rains to breed and eat.

Pooltime Pastime
Taken by American photographer Loren Elliott, this image features in our Urban Wildlife Category.
It shows a black bear cooling down with a dip in a backyard swimming pool in Los Angeles, California, USA. Where housing developments have spread into the bear's habitat, human-bear co-existence is increasingly challenging.
