To mark the publication of our upcoming NAO report, join me, Rich Sullivan-Jones (Director, NAO Value for Money audits on Defra) and my colleague Helen Roberts (Senior Audit Manager, NAO Value for Money audits on Defra) for a live webinar hosted by the Cold Chain Federation, where we'll discuss the resilience of the food supply chain to disruptions.
Register to attend
Government has designated food as one of 13 Critical National Infrastructure sectors that it considers essential for the country to function properly.
During recent disruptions, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, private sector businesses have succeeded in keeping the food supply chain running, in most cases without the need for significant government assistance.
But short- and long-term risks that could significantly affect the food supply chain are becoming more likely and potentially more severe. For example, climate change is increasing the likelihood of extreme weather events.
Our upcoming report examines whether the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), working with key public and private organisations, is taking effective action to ensure the food supply chain is resilient to disruptions. It looks at: - the key risks affecting the food supply chain and how Defra and industry have responded to recent disruptions
- Defra’s understanding of risks to the food supply chain and its actions to improve resilience
- Defra’s preparedness for catastrophic disruption to the food supply chain
We hope you can join us as we bring together experience from both the NAO and the Cold Chain Federation to discuss how Defra can ensure the food supply chain is resilient to shocks.
The report will be available on the NAO website via the following link from 00:01 Friday 4 September: https://www.nao.org.uk/reports/resilience-of-the-food-supply-chain-to-disruptions/
Please share this invitation with contacts who may be interested in attending. We look forward to welcoming you on the day.
