The 7 Live Stream Mistakes That Humiliate You In Front Of A Paying Audience
Seven faults, one number each. None of them says anything until the event is already live.

None of them are exotic. That is the depressing part.
The same seven faults keep coming back to us, and they arrive at a wedding, a Sunday service, a school match and a paid workshop in exactly the same shape. Each one waits until the event is live before it says anything, because that is the nature of the thing: nobody looks closely at a live stream until it stops behaving. We build WpStream for live streaming on WordPress, so these seven reach our inbox with some regularity.
So here is the list. What the viewer actually saw, why it happened, and the number that fixes it. There is no general advice in here about being prepared. Being prepared is not a setting.

From Monday, YouTube counts a view at the first frame
No minimum watch time, on long-form, Shorts and live alike. Your public numbers climb and nothing about your stream changed. Old videos keep their totals. YouTube says earnings and Partner Program eligibility are untouched, so if you send a sponsor a number this month, send engaged views and watch hours, and say which one you are quoting.

Streaming from your own site, where nobody moves the ruler
In the seven days to yesterday, 160 WpStream accounts went live across 245 channels. None of them got an announcement about what a view now means. When the stream runs on your own WordPress site, the count, the viewer list and the terms are yours to set, and they stay set.

Whatnot raised $545 million at a $20 billion valuation
The largest raise in live shopping closed on 7 August, led by ICONIQ, Lightspeed and Avra, roughly double last October's $11.5 billion mark. It moved over $6 billion of goods in 2025. Gary Vaynerchuk made the creator case the same week. If you already go live, the cheap test is one product you already sell, on one stream you were already running.

A firearms policy strike, on a live stream, upheld on appeal
A creator reported on 22 August that showing a third-party video during a live broadcast drew a firearms violation, and the appeal confirmed it rather than overturned it. YouTube's live rules carry their own line on this: no live stream that shows someone holding, handling or transporting a firearm. Whatever you stream, read the live restrictions page before the next one, not after the strike.
