Register for the “Addressing the Public Health Effects of Opioid Medications” Public Meeting
Registration is now open for the Addressing the Public Health Effects of Opioid Medications hybrid meeting, to be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM ET.
Convened by the Reagan-Udall Foundation for the FDA (Foundation) in collaboration with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, this public meeting will feature public comments on perspectives regarding the use of opioid medications for the management of pain and addiction. The meeting will also include a panel discussion with federal partners to discuss efforts to improve the management of pain and addiction.
Patients, family members/caregivers, healthcare providers, drug developers, and others are invited to share their interest in speaking either in person or virtually on the following topics:
- Scientific evidence regarding conditions of use, safety concerns, or benefit-risk assessment (including consideration of the public health effects) of opioid medications
- Input on FDA’s regulation of opioid medications
- Additional actions that could be considered to address the public health effects of opioid medications
The meeting is open to the public and will be offered both in person at FDA’s White Oak campus and virtually. The deadline to request to present public comment is Thursday, August 27, 2026, and requests must be made during online registration.

This meeting is one of several engagement activities being conducted in collaboration with the Foundation in partial fulfillment of Section 112 of the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act of 2025 (H.R. 2483), “Assessment of Opioid Drugs and Actions.”
