A Message from Principal Goldstein

Sam Goldstein

Dear Fairview Families,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year at Fairview Elementary! We hope your family has enjoyed a restful and joyful summer. We are delighted to welcome our students and families back for another year of learning, growth, and connection.

You are reading the first issue of the Fanfare, Fairview’s weekly family publication. Each week, you will receive school updates, important information, upcoming dates, and messages from our administrative team and FCPS. We encourage you to read the Fanfare each week to stay connected with all that is happening in our school community.

Next week, you can expect to receive an email from your child’s classroom teacher at 3:30PM on August 19.  We have an incredible team of teachers and paraprofessionals who are excited to welcome, support, and guide your children throughout the year. Their dedication, care, and enthusiasm make Fairview a truly special place to learn and grow.

We are grateful for your partnership and look forward to a wonderful school year together. Thank you for entrusting us with your children and for being an important part of the Fairview community.

Warmly,

Samantha Goldstein, Principal

Kaila Wise, Assistant Principal

PickUp Patrol (Dismissal)

This school year we will continue using PickUp Patrol  to help us track dismissals. PickUp Patrol (PUP) has saved us a great deal of time in the office, reduced classroom interruptions and provides you with a convenient way to make changes to your child’s dismissal plans.

Most importantly, continuing to use it will help us ensure that our students are safely dismissed to their correct after-school destinations.

We will send out more information next week to help you set up your account!

First Day of School

We’re excited to welcome students back on Monday, August 24, for the start of the 2026–2027 school year!

Please note: Our doors will open at 9:00 AM.

The school day begins at 9:10 AM, so we ask that all students be in their classrooms, seated, and ready to learn by then.

Dismissal will start at 3:55 PM.

Here are a few reminders to help the first day (and every day!) run smoothly:

  • Students should arrive no earlier than 9:00 AM.

  • Families are more than welcome to walk their children to class on the first day!

  • If a student arrives at or after 9:10 AM, they’ll be marked tardy and need to be signed in by an adult.

  • To help us keep things running smoothly in the Kiss-and-Ride loop, we kindly ask that students who can ride the bus or walk to school do so on the first day of school if possible.

School Supply Lists

Please check out our Fairview School Supply Lists!

Please note, if you ordered school supplies from the PTA, your child's supplies will be delivered to your child's classroom and available at Open House on August 21, 2026.

Kindergarten & New Student Registration

Planning to enroll your child at Fairview this fall? Know a family who is?

If your child will be joining Fairview this school year—or if you know a neighbor, friend, or family member who plans to enroll—we encourage you to contact Mrs. Fuller as soon as possible to begin the registration process.

Knowing how many students will attend helps us make important staffing decisions and ensures we have the right number of teachers and resources in place to support every child from the very first day of school.

Please don't wait until the last minute! Early registration helps us plan for a successful start to the school year for everyone.

Questions or ready to register? Contact Mrs. Fuller at slfuller@fcps.edu or 703-503-3700

Help us spread the word by sharing this information with neighbors and friends who may be new to the Fairview community!

New Student ID Cards Coming for Bus Riders This Fall

As part of the ongoing commitment to strengthening layered safety and security programs, FCPS will implement a new student ID system for students who ride our school buses.

The implementation of the student IDs is designed as an additional safety measure for our 130,000 FCPS students who ride the bus each day, ensuring they are on the right bus and that they get on and off at the correct bus stop, as well as making sure only authorized students are on our buses.

The IDs will be provided to students who ride the bus. Those students will be expected to tap on and tap off the bus. The student IDs do not track student movement. The only information available is when a student taps on or off a bus. Much like our Here Comes the Bus app, our new app will allow parents/guardians to track the progress of the school bus.

It is possible that the ID program will expand in the future to include uses such as library cards and meal payment. Learn more about the new transportation system and student ID cards.

2026-2027 Early Release Wednesdays

As we prepare for the new school year, we are working toward 100% completion of student re-enrollment forms for every family before school begins. The annual re-enrollment packet in the Parent Digital Consent System includes the early release Wednesdays childcare selection.

This year, we will have a total of four early release Wednesdays, where we dismiss at 12:55 p.m.

Our Fairview dates are:

  • October 21
  • December 2
  • February 10
  • May 5

Families may complete their forms electronically through ParentVUE, or by downloading the paper forms from the FCPS website and returning them to the school office. All re-enrollment forms must be completed before the start of school.
