LRES News
We're Eager to Welcome You Back to School!
As summer winds down, we are looking forward to welcoming students back to our classrooms. Use the following list to help make sure your child is ready!
☑️ Sign Up for SIS ParentVUE
Access your student’s attendance records, grades, and assignments at any time with SIS ParentVUE. Contact our registrar at nruffner@fcps.edu or call Little Run at 703-503-3500 if you need an activation code. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.
Update Your Contact Information
Be sure you receive important information! Update your phone number(s) and/or email address(es) by clicking “My Account” and reviewing the “Online Verification/Update.” On that form, you can also update immunization records, health information, and emergency contacts.
☑️ Update Immunizations and Records
Immunizations are required for all students to attend school in Virginia. This is an important part of protecting them from certain diseases and keeping them healthy.
When your child is immunized, remember to request a copy of their immunization record and bring that to our front office or submit the record via SIS ParentVUE as soon as possible. Find more information on FCPS’ website.
☑️ Learn About School Meals
Families need to provide their children with money to purchase meals at school or send them with a packed lunch. Alternatively, families may apply to receive free and reduced-price meal benefits, pending approval.
☑️ Bookmark the School Year Calendar
Be sure to bookmark the FCPS school year calendar to keep track of school holidays, breaks, and observances:
- Days marked blue with an “H” are student holidays. Schools are closed on these days.
- Days marked orange with an “O” are religious and cultural observance days (or evenings, if only half marked). There is school on these days, but certain events that cannot be made up may not be scheduled on these days.
- Days marked as TW, SD, and SP and in pink are holidays for students but working days for teachers and staff.
Please note that some holidays and observances, such as Eid al Fitr, may shift, and the calendar may be adjusted.
School Supplies
School supplies are in! If you ordered your child school supplies from our PTA they are here at Little Run! You will find them with your child's teacher during our open house on Friday, August 21 from 1:00-2:00.
Early Release Wednesday
Little Run will release students at 12:15 PM on the following days:
- September 30
- November 18
- January 13
- April 7
Please note: While we anticipate that most students will be dismissed at 12:15 on limited early release Wednesdays, we recognize that some families may require childcare. These students will be supervised by school-based staff. No new instruction will take place, as after-school care is strictly supervision.
ACTION REQUIRED: Elementary school parents and caregivers should use the Online Verification/Update (OVU) packet in SIS ParentVUE to review and provide consent for Early Release Wednesday Childcare. Make sure to scroll to the very bottom for Online Verification Update.
There will be 7 modules you will need to review and/or update before submitting your packet. As you complete each area, use the Previous or Save and Continue buttons at the bottom to navigate between pages. Do not use the browser back and forward buttons. A green check mark means the module is complete. An orange exclamation mark means the module is in progress.
- OPT IN if you require childcare on our limited early release Wednesdays.
- OPT OUT if your child will go home (or to childcare arranged with SACC or another provider) at the early release time.
Read more about the three-hour early releases here.
Little Run's Community Peers Program
Children who are ages 3-4 by September 30th may be eligible to attend preschool classes at Little Run Elementary as Community Peers.
The Community Peer program provides an opportunity for preschoolers with all abilities to work and play on a regular basis. Selected community peers attend as peer models in an early childhood special education classroom to promote social, academic, and language development.
Community Peers must be fully potty trained and not currently receiving FCPS special education services. Parents/Guardians are responsible for providing transportation and meals for their child.
Our early childhood special education program uses a child-centered approach with predictable routines that include morning meeting, circle time, work time, small-group activities, music, art, and outdoor play. Each class is led by a certified early childhood special education teacher and a full-time instructional assistant.
Families interested in having their preschool student attend Little Run as a community peer should fill out this form.
FCPS CARES
Want a quick way to recognize an employee or team? Share an FCPS CARES! Families, colleagues, and students are all invited to submit. The FCPS CARES is automatically sent to the recipient(s) and their supervisor, and is posted on fcps.edu. Additionally, each month one school in our region wins a staff celebration from HR.
