VA launches trail of GLP-1 treatment for alcohol use disorder
VA announces a new clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist used to treat diabetes, as treatment for alcohol use disorder (AUD).
Currently, more than 400,000 Veterans nationwide are diagnosed with AUD, and some estimates say AUD affects nearly 11% of U.S. adults.

Veterans Leadership Program
 Free Vaccine Clinic for Veterans and current service members
When: Tuesday, September 15, 2026| 10 am-3 pm
Cost: Free
Location: Allegheny Commons Park |West North Avenue, Pittsburgh 15212
Details: Free vaccine clinic for cats and dogs. Proof of military or Veteran status will be required. No appointment necessary. Free pet food and pet supplies while available.
Services Offered: Rabies - Free FVRCP - Free DHPP - Free Lepto - Free
Please bring prior vaccine records. All dogs must come on a sturdy, non-retractable leash. Cats must be in a carrier.

2026 Crucible Hike: September 18th-20th
Join VLP for a 3-day, 70-mile extreme hike through some of Pennsylvania's most spectacular scenery along the Laurel Highlands. It is a journey of passion, determination, and personal triumph, as much as an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of local Veterans who need Veteran Leadership Program (VLP) services.
The Crucible hikers will have access to overnight shelter areas with food, medical attention, and plenty of stories to tell for years to come.
Hikers will spend the night at base camp on Thursday, September 17th and the 70 mile hike will start bright and early on Friday, September 18th. The hike will end during the afternoon of Sunday, September 20th.

TSA PreCheck for Qualifying Disabled Veterans
TSA is working with the Department of Veterans Affairs on the Veterans Expedited TSA Screening (VETS) Safe Travel Act which provides free TSA PreCheck® enrollment to Veterans with qualifying service-connected disabilities. TSA PreCheck allows travelers to experience smarter, faster airport security in dedicated lanes when they travel.
Eligibility for free TSA PreCheck enrollment under the VETS Safe Travel Act is limited to Veterans enrolled in VA healthcare who have a service‑connected disability of permanent blindness or require the use of a VA‑issued wheelchair or prosthetic limb.

Free Entrance to National Parks for Current Military, Veterans, and Gold Star Families
The National Park Service in partnership with Operation Live Well would like to thank military personnel and their families for their service and invite them to enjoy their national parks.
Current US military and dependents, Gold Star Families, and US military veterans are eligible to receive free annual or lifetime passes which cover entrance or standard amenity (day-use) fees at national parks, national wildlife refuges, national forests, and other federal recreational lands. These free passes are a way to thank US military members for their support of our country and to encourage them to explore recreational opportunities on their public lands and waters.
