When life gets busy, we all need a place to escape the noise and bask in the silence of nature. Our writer visited Hartwood, a new treehouse hotel hidden in a forest near Minden, Ont. The units in each glass-and-wood box suspended about 30 feet in the air are outfitted with just a record player so guests can escape distraction and tap back into reality.

Also this week, our writer went on a six-day, female-only hiking trip in the Canadian Rockies. At the end of the trek, she says she felt “more than just a sense of accomplishment,” and many of the participants ended up making new friends.
