Good evening from Washington, where there’s a lot going on for the doldrums of summer.
Tonight, Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan will host the Washington celebration of their recent smash hit, Regime Change, thrown by their publisher at—where else?—the Ned, DC’s premier (read: only) members club with a pulse.
Around the same time, across town, the British ambassador is hosting a pre-party in advance of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner: Inferno Edition.
You heard that right. The dinner is back and being held Friday night, with the April original having been canceled due to a shooting attempt.
The dinner is no longer being held at the Hilton, which now boasts the distinction of being the site of not one, but two presidential-level assassination attempts. Our bravest members of the Washington press corps will sweat through their tuxedos in the basement of the Waldorf Astoria instead.
IN THIS EDITION OF PARTY ANIMALS… My lunch with Bill Maher at The Beverly Hills Hotel, where we talked about his Kennedy Center honor, Donald Trump, the Democrats, 2028, Israel, David Ellison vs. David Zaslav, Bari Weiss, and more.
