NEW cursive guide and resources for schools and libraries

This summer we were lucky to host Junior Fellow Shelby Kruger for a project focused on better connecting to libraries and educators. The Library of Congress Junior Fellow Program is a 10-week summer internship that gives participants hands-on experience working in the world’s largest research library. Shelby interviewed librarians and teachers who had hosted transcribing activities and analyzed and updated resources. The fruits of her labor are now online! These include:

• A new How-To guide: Reading Cursive Handwriting
• New resources on how to start a Cursive Club at your school or library (including a printable cursive license!)
• An updated For Educators page, featuring a transcribe-a-thon guide specifically for teachers

250 commemorations continue all summer long

We saw a big surge in interest in the American Revolution In Context transcription campaigns around the commemorations of America's 250th birthday. To-date, volunteers have completed nearly 30,000 pages, and another 20,000 await review. 

The Atlantic Neptune nautical atlases, used heavily by the British to navigate North American waters, launched June 30 are now completely transcribed! 995 pages still need review. Help us finish this first-ever map transcription campaign strong!

Legal documents shed light on what societies and individuals value, and the struggles, hopes, and triumphs of people across the societal spectrum. Transcribe documents written in Spanish, Latin, and Catalan between 1300 and 1800, and open the legal history of Spain and Spanish colonies to greater discovery. Jump in to help us bring this rare collection to life!
