Library of Congress Program Honors Accessible Libraries in Georgia and Massachusetts

The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled at the Library of Congress has recognized two cooperating libraries in Georgia and Massachusetts for their outstanding service to readers with visual, physical or print disabilities.

The Georgia Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled in Atlanta received the 2026 Regional Library of the Year Award, while the Worcester Talking Book Library in Worcester, Massachusetts, received the Subregional Library of the Year Award.

The two libraries will be feted July 22 at a luncheon in the historic Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress.

Join us tomorrow, July 23, for an Orientation to Law Library Collections webinar. The Orientation to Law Library Collections (OLLC) Webinar is designed for patrons familiar with legal research who would like an introduction to the collections and services specific to the Law Library of Congress. It will cover digital resources available through the Law Library’s website, as well as those available onsite.

This OLLC Webinar will feature a special appearance by the Director of the Supreme Court of Ohio Law Library, Erin Waltz, as part of the State Law Libraries Outreach Project. The purpose of the State Law Libraries Outreach Project is to strengthen the ties between the Law Library of Congress and state law libraries by sharing information about our collections, products, and services with the public. This project involves providing a guest spot for state law librarians, or their designees, to discuss the collections and services they offer during our OLLC Webinars.

Chronicling America is regularly updated with newly-digitized newspapers from contributors to the National Digital Newspaper Program. Digitized newspapers are delivered in the form of batches, where each batch can contain one to many issues, from one or more newspaper titles. Recently loaded batches can be discovered on the Chronicling America Research Guide. More details about the batch can be discovered by clicking on the batch name link.

Recent additions to Chronicling America include:

• Pawtucket Gazette and Chronicle (Pawtucket, RI) 1850-1910. The paper collected local news, poetry, and reports of world events, later expanding to include news, sermons, and style sections.
• The Pascoag Herald and Burrillville News-Gazette (Pascoag, RI) 1895-1897 and related title The Pascoag Herald 1900-1918. Updates on the goings-on of locals were posted on the front page as “Home News.” Sermons by the popular Reverend Thomas De Witt Talmage or other religious figures often spanned the entire second page of each issue.
