Pedro Pascal is ready for his close-up. It’s hard to believe that Pascal, whom you have most likely seen steal a scene (or two, or three, or four) in The Fantastic Four, Eddington, Gladiator II, Materialists, and The Mandalorian and Grogu, among many others, and grace the cover of this very magazine, is just now stepping into his first leading film role. In Behemoth!, Tony Gilroy’s love letter to movie music, Pascal plays Alex, a cellist who returns to LA and gets into the world of Hollywood film scoring after decades spent performing symphonic work around the country. For Pascal, the role was pitch-perfect. “I remember reading [the script] and being like, Fuck, I want this,” he recently told Savannah Walsh.
And, it seems, a long time coming. “I wished for myself this kind of experience as an actor before I ever got to act,” the 51-year-old said. “And now it’s coming very much later in my life and later in my career…. There was an instant kismet.”
So cue the music, and read on.
