Summer is always a difficult time for the blood supply, with no school blood drives and regular donors going on vacation. This year, the situation is worse than usual, with hospitals needing more units of blood even as donations remain low. 

The Red Cross is asking everyone, but especially people who have Type O or B-negative blood. There's no substitute for human blood, so check your eligibility here.
