Israel: High Court Voids State Comptroller Election Due to Violations of Ballot Secrecy

On July 2, 2026, Israel’s Supreme Court, sitting as the High Court of Justice, unanimously voided the second round of voting in the Knesset (Israel’s parliament) to elect the state comptroller because several members videotaped themselves casting votes. The court held that the recordings constituted a significant defect in the secrecy of the vote, therefore rendering it void.
