If you're trusting an at-home smart scale to guess your body fat % - stop.

That number is a mega guess.

Here's what's actually happening: those scales use something called bioelectrical impedance analysis or BIA for short.

They send a tiny electrical current through your body and measure how fast it travels, then use that to estimate body fat.

(because muscle is fairly conductive, and fat is not).

So it’s not actually measuring fat. It’s measuring hydration.

Problem one - that signal often only measures you from the waist down, which doesn’t give a clear picture of what’s going on.

Problem two - that measurement changes hugely based on how hydrated you are. Sodium, carbs, fluids, workouts, etc. can all make a massive swing happen.

I've had clients text me panicking because the scale said their body fat jumped 4% overnight. It didn't.

I’ve had guys tell me they’re 15% body fat and they think they need to lose just 10 pounds… Tough convo.

Here’s what I recommend:

1. Ignore the BF % number.

Even a DEXA scan isn’t as accurate as you think. If you’re as lean as you want to be, cool. If not, lose some fat. Simple as that.

2. If you MUST - look at trends.

If you insist on using the BF % function, just look at how it’s changing over the course of 3 months instead of daily.
