European Union: Court Partially Annuls Meta’s “Gatekeeper” Designation

On June 3, 2026, the General Court of the European Union issued a decision that partially annulled Meta’s “gatekeeper” designation under the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). The DMA describes gatekeepers as important market players that hold considerable economic power and provide at least one core platform service. Meta brought this action seeking the annulment of certain gatekeeper designations and to confirm the revocation of the gatekeeper status regarding its Marketplace service.The General Court of the European Union serves as an independent trial court within the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) system.
