The repurchase of the service family accommodation estate

In 1996, MoD entered into a "sale and leaseback" deal with Annington Homes involving all of its military housing. According to our new report, this arrangement has led to an overall loss to the public purse of some £14.5 billion.   

But a new agreement signed in 2024 to repurchase the properties offers an opportunity to stop further loss. 

The report also shows how MoD now has a new challenge. It needs to become both property developer and housing service in order to provide military personnel and their families with quality accommodation.
