Nintendo has confirmed that it will release a version of the Nintendo Switch 2 with a user-replaceable battery to comply with new European regulations that take effect on February 18, 2027. They say compliant models will have distinct model numbers and packaging markings, and it's not yet clear whether these versions will be sold outside the EU. Thanks to the EU's legislation, more and more manufacturers are being pushed toward repairable devices, reversing years of sealed-in battery designs, as the Verge also wrote recently. |

The New York Legislature has passed the Electronics Repair Scores Act, which would make New York the first U.S. state to require manufacturers to display repairability scores for electronic products on packaging, retailer displays, and product webpages. The bill now awaits Governor Kathy Hochul’s signature. |
