Hi Mother Jones Reader,
I’m Jamilah King, editorial director here at Mother Jones. Before I was an editorial director, I was the managing editor at BuzzFeed News and, before that, the race and justice reporter right back here at Mother Jones. You might be thinking: What does an editorial director do, exactly? Well, let me take you behind the scenes.
I help decide which stories we’ll pursue, what platform they’ll be told on, and how to best tell them. I oversee a team of reporters, collaborating on ideas and editing pieces. And I work with our copy editors, fact checkers, and web editors throughout the whole process.
Fact-checking is a hot topic these days, with the continued rise of AI and the misinformation it can often lead to. Our goal at Mother Jones is to give you the most accurate news and information possible, so we take fact checking seriously. Equally important to me is then getting that fact-checked reporting into the hands of anyone who wants to read, listen, or watch. It’s why all the journalism on our website is free to read—not ever behind a paywall.
